Common Plumbing Challenges in Ault, CO

Living in Ault means embracing wide-open skies…and the occasional plumbing curveball. Here are the four quirks we tackle most often:

  1. Frozen Pipes & Burst Risks
Nights in our corner of Weld County occasionally dip below 1°F from November through March. If your pipes aren’t snug as a bug in insulation, they’ll ice up and sometimes crack under pressure. We’ll show you exactly which sections to wrap and how to spot stress points before disaster strikes.

  2. Well Water & Hardness Issues
Ault homeowners often rely on private wells, and that groundwater can pack a mineral punch. Over time, calcium and magnesium build up in your fixtures and appliances, slowing the flow and raising energy bills. We’ll test your hardness levels on the spot and recommend filtration or softener solutions that fit your budget and lifestyle.

  3. Water Heater Strain at Altitude
Up here, thinner air affects heating efficiency. Sediment settles faster in your tank, corroding the anode rod and forcing your heater to work overtime. We offer scheduled flushes and component inspections so your morning shower never feels like an ice bath.

  4. Sewer Lines & Tree Roots
Many older Ault properties host poplars and elms whose roots creep into clay or cast-iron sewer pipes, causing slow drains or backups. Our video camera inspections pinpoint intrusions, and we’ll map out trenchless repair options that save your lawn.

DIY Winterizing Tips for Ault Homes

Even if you’re not booking us for a full-on winter tune-up, these quick tricks can save you a mountain of headaches when Old Man Winter rolls in:

  1. Wrap Exposed Pipes: Grab foam sleeves or heat tape from your local hardware store and snug them around any unshielded pipes in basements or crawl spaces. Think of it as a cozy sweater for your plumbing.

  2. Shut Off & Drain Outdoors Faucets: Flip the shut-off valve inside your home, then crack the outdoor spigot open to bleed out leftover water—no more surprise icicles on your hose bib.

  3. Install Heat Trace Cables: If you’ve got pipes that live in chilly spots, these powered cables sense dropping temps and kick on automatically; ideal for that crawlspace under your kitchen.

  4. Flush Your Water Heater: Sediment buildup freezes even faster at altitude. A quick annual flush keeps your tank humming and wards off corrosion.

This company is amazing. My association began in August 2022 when had them install a new air conditioning unit. There were a few minor thermostat issues but they stayed on the case until the issues were resolved. In October of 2023, I had them out again because after I replaced the batteries in the thermostat, it would not reset. Again, Rob was so thorough in trying to figure out what was the crazy problem. It was finally determined that we needed to FULLY drain the battery before installing the new battery. It was just a weird fluke, but he finally figured it out. After this wonderful experience with 1st Action, I immediately purchased their maintenance package. I'm so glad I did. Riley, has been working on securing a new UV allergen unit for my furnace as the the current one has failed. You just get the feeling they really want to help solve your problem. On Thanksgiving morning we awoke to no heat. Rob was again out that morning to figure out the issue. In no time he had located the problem and had it fixed. We were nice and toasty just a few hours later. A special shout out Brenda in the office. She is professional, friendly and just a peach to talk with. She is always concerned with making sure visits work with my schedule. I also love the text messages showing a picture of the tech headed to my house. What a wonderful added protection. I really feel that if you are loyal to this company, they will be loyal to you. What a comfort knowing that!! We have not had the pleasure of working with any of the plumbers on staff, but I can only imagine that they are thorough and professional as well.

Abel addressed the issue of an old and badly rusted drain in my kitchen, gave me a quote to hook up my new sink, and did the job perfectly right there and then despite the somewhat unconventional nature of the installation. He was careful of the newly finished floors, left everything better than he found it, and I could not be happier with his work. I highly recommend 1st Action Plumbing Heating and Air, INC!
